Job Context:

Do you have a passion for combating violence in the world bit by bit as part of a global movement? Then Beyond Violence is precisely the organisation you will be interested in! Beyond Violence is centered around a web platform which seeks to engage local activists and campaigners across countries and continents in the promotion of non-violent conflict transformation. We are able to achieve this through the use of information communication technologies (ICTs) in combination to engage a wide range of people impacted by violence and conflict in online petitions, forum discussions, digital conferences, international campaigns and more.

Areas of Responsibility:

Conducting research into situations of conflict in support of our campaign development;
Supporting and leading other research activities for Beyond Violence's different teams;
Writing and editing conflict profiles to be published on our website;
Monitoring situations of conflict to gauge the potential for new campaigns;
Support the development of and adherence to Monitoring and Evaluation processes across the organisation;
Participating in online Skype meetings with the research team and in fortnightly team leader meetings
Effectively coordinate your tasks with the research manager
Collaborate remotely on shared projects with both the research team members as well as with other Beyond Violence teams
Facilitating documentation and sharing of learns learnt through M&E, action research and publication.
Job Specification:

Essential Knowledge/Experience:

Academic and/or professional background in peace and conflict studies, international relations, international politics, communications a distinct advantage;
Practical experience of using conflict analysis tools in either an academic and/or professional environment;
Experience in writing research papers (graduate level papers preferred);
Knowledge and experience in Monitoring and Evaluation tools.
Excellent written and oral communication skills in English. Knowledge of other languages is an added advantage.

Desirable Personal Qualities:

Self-motivated and eager to learn;
Passion for and interest in peace, non-violence, conflict transformation and ICTs;
Proactive use of email communication and Skype;
Ability to commit 5-10 hours per week as Deputy Research Manager;
Ability to work collaboratively with colleagues
Ability to creatively communicate issues
Ability to manage competing priorities
